If they would only allow us to leave

I can't believe that the whole thing just went away. The whole of everything was replaced by a scattered myriad of holes of nothing. Where did it come from? We had no clue. But it took blocks of land. literally perfectly carved square blocks of varying size. Some places the blocks of stuff replaced by nothing were carved just under the surface of the ground. This caused a number of sinkholes as pressure or disruption of one sort or the other applied sooner or later. Throughout the city there were strange configurations as squares of great towers were opened up. But the buildings stood as if nothing was gone.
I was in a tower when it happened. Not a single warning, nothing. If you weren't staring in the exact direction you would have never known it happened except for a few screams. The block lost was oh probably 40'sq. in all directions. We could see through it but we knew there was nothing there. The surface area of the block was cut so perfectly. Like the sharpest of razor knifes sliced out a block of the universe in perfect o mil accuracy. The offices cubicles were sliced through on a diagonal. some lost their lives as only part of their bodies remained. perfectly sheared where they were when it appeared. Only that which was not in the area of the block "survived" or rather still existed. Someone tried to reach into it's void and lost a small part of their hand. Again, perfectly sheared and catheterized to the exact furthest point of entry. It was horrendous as those above yet not aware of the severity and danger attempted to look over to communicate with us a floor below. We could see them above as one leaned too far and fell into it and down at us. But they didn't fall at us. They were just gone. It got quiet. And no one moved.
This would be the 4th time in as many months that it's happened. Each time another segment of the city gets "taken".
Where?
Or anywhere?
If they would only allow us to leave.Or remember. But each time we are made to forget. How? And why not me?
